Please HELP! (Disaster!)

Hello all,

I'm now into the 5th day of my JRSC install on my 98 integra GSR, and disaster has struck.. On the very last step, the last thing that I was doing before firing her up and testing everything - putting in the coolant.. And guess what - I just found out that it's leaking coolant.. So after pulling off the strut bar and intake, I've discovered that it's leaking from the gasket between the JR intake manifold and the cylinder head, near the throttle body.. There's a big coolant hose that attaches to the bottom of the intake manifold there, and delivers coolant to the head.

This is very very very bad.. I've already taken 4 days off of work and I can't afford to take any more, not to mention that I don't have any transportation right now.. It would take days to pull the SC and manifold off, put on a new gasket, and re-assemble everything.. Not to mention that after everything I've been through lately I don't have the motivation to do it.

Would it be acceptable if I put a bunch of black silicone RTV sealant around the area where it's leaking? Do you think that would hold up or would it be a bad idea? Please please please say yes (honestly) because I'm very desparate right now.

i am not an expert on automotive applications, but sealant requires a "positive" seal to work even under moderate pressures. simply sealing around the outside of two joined surfaces will only prevent fluid from the OUTSIDE from coming in. enough pressure on the inside and the sealant will fail.

holden had a leak from that area . he determined after disassembly that it was a casting flaw of the intake manifold . if this is the case with yours ask holden about jb weld .

has it really taken you 4 days to get the sc in ? i hope it only been a couple hours a day then . my biggie mistake with the install was not attaching the sc support bracket to the alternator lower mount before fastening it up(2hr+ of diassembly/reassembly) . i know how infurriating it can be , but act with a pourpose and get it over with . the longer you frett over it the worse it becomes .

I got lucky with my leak. It was easily visible and easily plugged with JB Weld.

JB Weld will only work for a hole/flaw in the metal.

I'm afraid this blower/manifold needs to be pulled and a new gasket and some more time cleaning the mating surfaces is in order.

Rent a car and go to work. Spend a couple bucks on the rental and get your mind on somethign other than the car for a few days. Then go in and fix things properly as others have already suggested.

I'm doing all of this crap at a friend's house, so it's really inconvenient.. But since everything is going into the shitcan right now, my friend Dan (who must be one of the greatest guys) is lending me his 350hp 99 eclispe gsx for the weekend.. He's going to be out of town.. This way I can go home and take care of my cat, and get around to procure parts... Damn I almost wish I hadn't even bothered with this. I suppose if I ever get it to work it will be worth it..

Oh BTW what do you think of using some black silicone RTV sealant on the manifold gasket? I was considering putting sealant around the coolant hole on both sides of the gasket.. I was also considering using some around the intake runner holes as well... Any thoughts yeah or nay?

I think you already know what you need to do. You should do it the right way now. if not you will put it off until later an probably never do it. if it is leaking from the intake to the head then you also gotta consider it could also be leaking inside too. you don't want to suck any water through your head.
